Video Game Art Gallery (VGA) Executive Director Jonathan Kinkley will speak about architecture of virtual worlds. Unlike architecture in the physical world that is constrained by gravity, resources, materials, zoning codes etc, the architecture of virtual worlds is only constrained by the imagination of its builders.
This talk explores what people build when they can build anything looking specifically at the worlds of Second Life and Minecraft.
Kinkley is a writer and museum professional with more than 10 years of experience working in galleries and museums across the world. Academically trained as an art historian, Kinkley holds a BFA in art history from University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and an MA in art history from University of Illinois at Chicago with a thesis focus on the art and architecture of virtual worlds.
