City Script: A Street Art Workshop & Film Screening

  • FOURTUNEHOUSE Art Center 4410 South Cottage Grove Avenue Chicago, IL, 60653 United States (map)

As part of the Letters Beyond Form exhibition, this event is presented in partnership between Fourtune House Art Center and the Design Museum of Chicago, connecting local creative spaces to the larger conversation about lettering and public art.

Graffiti is more than just writing on walls—it’s a form of self-expression, storytelling, and community identity. City Script: A Street Art Workshop invites you to explore the styles and techniques of street lettering while contributing to a collaborative community wall. Inspired by the layered surfaces of our neighborhoods—marked by graffiti tags, sticker-covered poles, and wheat-pasted posters—this workshop offers a hands-on opportunity to engage with the visual language of the city. Led by artist Daniel Ponce, participants will learn about graffiti culture and create together in an open, welcoming environment.

What To Expect

  • Street Art Freestyling – Use markers to add your own words, designs, or tags to the wall.

  • Wheat-Pasting Posters – Customize pre-made posters with graffiti-style lettering and paste them onto the board.

  • Sticker Station – Choose from pre-made stickers with bold phrases to add to the community piece.

A film will be screened throughout the event, offering a look into the history, culture, and impact of street art. Light refreshments will be available as you create, connect, and explore the space.
