DESIGN FOR A CIRCULAR ECONOMY
The business of design frequently hinges upon creating demand for new products, services and experiences. Yet many of us are asking how we can put our talents to use toward the design of sustainable systems. This experiential event focuses on design for the reuse economy: How can we make reused materials more desirable? How can we use reclaimed materials to make new useful products? How can we design a more consumer-friendly reuse marketplace? How might we design more scalable and profitable reuse models?
This is a three-part event starting with a social hour over snacks and beer, segueing into a panel discussion and experiential activity.
Panel Discussion
Managing Director of Gensler, Todd Heiser, will welcome panelists in a conversation moderated by Design Strategist Tom Mulhern (Studio Y) with Anne Nicklin (Rebuilding Exchange), Nicolette Stosure-Bassett (Do It Better Design), and Jessica Gracey (Gensler) on:
State of Circular Economy in the world and in Chicago today?
How is Design—architecture, graphic design, UX–already contributing to the circular economy?
What makes reuse difficult? How might design help solve for that?
Experiential Activity
Using the Rebuilding Exchange warehouse for inspiration, attendees will work in teams to ideate around opportunities for:
Brand Design and desirability
Product Design and usability
User Experience Design and viability
Service Design and feasibility
