Awakenings and the Design Museum of Chicago present a virtual paper-making workshop that promotes healing. We look back at artworks in our Permanent Collection made from a paper-making workshop in 2019 and reimagine what paper-making looks like in our current landscape of creating and healing at home.
Participants will use objects and supplies that can be found around their home, like a blender and old mail to create paper ready for art making. The intention of this workshop is to explore healing through a creative tactile experience and provide alternative paper making methods accessible from home.
Instructed by Jacqueline Valdez, Visual Artist and Awakenings Programming Coordinator
Materials: The goal is to require minimal cost for this workshop, since most items can be sourced from home. One item that may need to be purchased is mesh wire. An everyday object that can be used in place of the mesh wire is a window screen or cheesecloth, otherwise mesh wire can be found at a local hardware store. If some supplies are not an option, there is a modified version of this workshop (view modified list). This workshop can take place in a dining room, kitchen or outside (if an electrical outlet is available).
The Zoom link will be sent out the night before and day of for participants to access the workshop.
