Great Ideas Kick-off Party
Friday April 20th 2018, 6:00 pm–9:00 pm
It is essential to celebrate and share the ideas that unite us, inspire us, and caution us; to consider ideas that transcend our individual worldviews and establish a common ground that binds us. A reimagining of Container Corporation of America’s stunning advertising campaign, Great Ideas of Western Man, Great Ideas of Humanity: Out of the Container highlights a broad spectrum of human thought and reminds us that, sometimes, looking to the past helps to comprehend the present.
Come celebrate the Great Ideas project’s first installation in the ChiDM gallery and the work of designers and artists from around the world. With special help from Cards Against Humanity, have a chance to answer “What makes a great idea?” for yourself. See what CPS students in the 826CHI creative writing program think a great idea is. Talk to your neighbors and come up with the next great idea to make the world a better place.
As a special component to the exhibition, 9 of the pieces will reflect the quotes of distinguished Chicagoans such as Ida B. Wells, Buckminster Fuller and László Moholy-Nagy, and feature designs by Chicagoans, including Jason Pickleman, Jilly Simons and Carol Ross Barney. This grouping, Chicago Voices is presented as part of Art Design Chicago, an initiative of the Terra Foundation for American Art exploring Chicago’s art and design legacy, with presenting partner The Richard H. Driehaus Foundation. The grouping is funded by the Terra Foundation for American Art and The Richard H. Driehaus Foundation.
