Founder and Executive Director
Tanner is founder, executive director, and bartender of Design Museum of Chicago (formerly Chicago Design Museum). He teaches at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and makes Iterative Work. As a designer, educator, and entrepreneur, he has taught, lectured, and led workshops on design issues, social change, and design history in classrooms and at conferences. He is irrepressibly optimistic, believing design has the capacity to fundamentally improve the human condition.
Executive Director of Operations and Collections
Lauren is an experienced digital and analog collections manager, exhibition developer, and project manager with experience at the Adler Planetarium, National Park Service, Naval History and Heritage Command, Anacostia Community Museum (Smithsonian), and Studio Blue. She holds an MA in Museum Studies from George Washington University and BAs in History and American Studies from Illinois Wesleyan University. She is a realist, and thinks the most interesting parts of design are process and craft.
He holds a BFA in Industrial Design from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. Post graduation and prior to joining the museum, Yaro was a Design Resident at the Center for Lost Arts and an Architectural Designer at Vera Rice Architects. In a past life he has done aid work and taught English language in Nicaragua, Thailand, Laos, and Sri Lanka — he is a licensed TESOL instructor (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages). Yaro designs things (actual things, like objects.)
Annie is a graphic designer, writer, and eater who holds an MFA in Visual Communication Design from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago. She’s most interested in the crossroads between language, design, and civic engagement as a means to drive social change. She enjoys dogs and exploiting her partial deafness to make people repeat compliments.
