With reverence to an influential series of mid-20th century advertisements created by Chicago-based Container Corporation, the Chicago Design Museum has commissioned contemporary artists to create works inspired by important thinkers to form a new series entitled Great Ideas of Humanity. As part of Art Design Chicago, the series is now on view at the Museum in the exhibition, Great Ideas of Humanity: Out of the Container.

As a special component to the exhibition, 10 pieces reflect the quotes of distinguished Chicagoans such as Ida B. Wells, Buckminster Fuller and László Moholy-Nagy, and are designed by Chicago artists and designers, including Jason PicklemanJilly Simons and Carol Ross Barney. Chicago Voices is presented as part of Art Design Chicago, an initiative of the Terra Foundation for American Art exploring Chicago’s art and design legacy, with presenting partner The Richard H. Driehaus Foundation. The grouping is funded by the Terra Foundation for American Art and The Richard H. Driehaus Foundation.

This exhibition is made possible with additional support from CushingMohawkClassic Color, and an anonymous donor.
