Cycling fashion has been a topic of discussion since bicycles were invented. People carefully selected their clothing for both for performance and self-expression. Today’s cyclists make similar decisions. Join Petra Slinkard, Curator of Fashion and Textiles at the Peabody Essex Museum, in conversation with Lauren Boegen, Curator of Keep Moving: Designing Chicago’s Bicycle Culture and Design Museum of Chicago’s Executive Director of Operations and Collections, in conversation as they discuss the history, fashion and evolution of style associated with bike culture. Learn more about how and why people choose what to wear, why to wear it and what they might communicate in their selection garb and gear.

From Bloomers to Pedal Pushers to Rompers is presented in conjunction with Keep Moving: Designing Chicago’s Bicycle Culture, which explores how Chicago design shaped the American image of the bicycle and design’s ongoing influence on Chicago bicycle culture.

Keep Moving is part of Art Design Chicago, an initiative of the Terra Foundation for American Art exploring Chicago’s art and design legacy, with presenting partner The Richard H.
