Poster Exchange: Swap & Shop

We are excited to announce the Design Museum of Chicago's first Poster Exchange!


HOW IT WORKS:

  1. Upload your work through the submission form

  2. Pay the $40 participation fee through the link emailed to you

  3. Starting on February 1, check out all the posters submitted by other participants and pick out your favorite

  4. Redeem your free poster!

We'll be accepting submissions from November 9, 2020 – January 29, 2021. On February 1, all work will be uploaded to the Shopify site for swapping. You'll be able to select from any available work until February 19, 2020.

FAQ

What type of work is eligible? All digital work is eligible, including photography, graphic design, illustration, etc. As long as we can print it, you can submit it!

Can multiple people submit as one entry? Yes, but only one print will be mailed to you as part of the swap.

How do I submit? Upload your images through the submission form. After you submit your files, you'll receive a link to Shopify to pay the $40 participation fee. (You're purchasing a gift card to be used during the exchange in February. Can you use it for other things in the Museum Shop? Yes. Will we give you a new one if you do that? No. But we do encourage you to check out the rest of the shop!)

Is there a type of print that you will not accept? We will not accept any prints that we deem inappropriate or offensive. We reserve the right to refund any submissions that do not fit our criteria for the swap. 

Can I choose the print I receive in return? Yes! When you pay, you'll receive a $40 voucher for the Swap. On February 1, 2021, all of the prints submitted to the swap will be available on Shopify. Add a print to your cart and redeem the coupon code at check out to order a print of your choice! The museum covers the shipping fees. 

Can I choose the size? No, all posters will be sized 16x20".

What size should my image be? You will need to use this form to submit your work. Please upload your image as a JPEG unless it has a transparent background, in which case it should be uploaded as a PNG. Files should be at least 4800 x 6000 px (16x20”), at least 150 dpi. The safe print area is 15x19.” If you upload a larger file, please maintain a 4:5 proportion or we will have to crop as best we see fit. Avoid borders and send files as full bleeds. The best color profile is sRGB, and second best is CMYK. We cannot guarantee color accuracy. 

If I upload my image and pay the fee, will my image be promoted in any way? We hope to showcase as many images as possible on social media, but unfortunately cannot promise that your image will be posted.

How many photos may I submit? You can submit as many images as you like. For each print you submit, you will receive one in return.

SHIPPING

When will I get the print? Prints are mailed from the United States and the United Kingdom. Shipping should take about a week, but up to 3 weeks due to ongoing pandemic fulfillment slowdowns.  

What if I don't receive my print? Please get in touch with us at printswap@designchicago.org if you have not received your print and it has been 4 weeks.

What if my print is damaged in the mail? Please let us know and we will get another one out to you.

WHAT'S NEXT

On February 1, 2021, you'll receive a link to the Swap. It will run through the Museum's Shopify shop. Select a print and use that gift card you bought to  pay for it. Fell in love with two prints and can't decide? You can buy a second, but you'll have to pay for it normally.
