  • Design Museum of Chicago 72 E Randolph St Chicago (map)
OX-workshops_Annie_header.jpg

In this live digital workshop, participants will use found and reused materials from their own home to make a sketchbook or notebook using a sewn binding method. The focus will be primarily repurposing common household items and materials into something new and useful.

The workshop will be led via Zoom by our very own Annie Leue, Art Director of Design and Marketing at the museum and an avid bookmaker. Tune in live to receive personalized instruction and have the opportunity to ask questions and get feedback.

Need binding supplies? Select the ticket option," admission + supplies," to have a binding kit mailed directly to your home. Have your own supplies? Select, "admission only."

You will need:

  • Paper, text-weight (printer paper, cut-up paper bags, or anything of the sort!)

  • Cover-weight material (cardstock, cardboard, cereal boxes, etc.)

  • Scissors

  • Needles (embroidery needles are best, but sewing needles will work too!)

  • Thread (linen is best, but cotton will also work)

  • Bonefolder

  • Beeswax (optional)

  • Awl (a needle will also work)

  • Ruler

  • X-acto knife

  • Cutting mat or otherwise protective surface

> This event has ended.

The museum is closed until June 30th, 2020.

While distancing we are planning virtual events, moving our exhibitions online, and publishing student design projects. Take care of yourself!
