A member of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra bass section since 1995, and associate principal bass in the Milwaukee Symphony from 1983 to 1995, Dan Armstrong’s career has spanned early music (he was a founding member of the Tafelmusik baroque ensemble) to contemporary (as a founding member of Present Music and a regular in the CSO‘s MusicNow series). He has performed as a bass soloist on WFMT, on the Chicago Symphony Chamber Music series, and at the Wisconsin Conservatory of Music.
Jason Seed‘s music has been performed by various ensembles in jazz, rock, and classical settings across the United States and in Holland, Germany, and Poland. He has performed as a guitarist with Present Music (performing the music of Astor Piazolla, Elena Kats-Chernin, and Michael Torke), The Jessica Lurie Ensemble, Trey Gunn (of King Crimson), Bill Frisell, and numerous groups of his own. In 2006 he created the Jason Seed Elixir Ensemble, which went on to win Best Album in the 2008 Independent Music Awards. In 2008 he created the Jason Seed Stringtet, consisting of members of the Chicago and Milwaukee Symphonies. In 2009 his “String Quintet no 1” and “5 Tangos in 3 Movements” were premiered by the Chicago Symphony‘s Skookumchuck Strings for the CSO‘s Dvorak Festival. His music has been heard on WFMT, NPR, PBS, and in numerous films including the 2012 documentary Everglades of the North for PBS. The Stringtet produced the album In the Gallery in 2013, a special collaboration with musician Yang Wei on pipa.
